Keith Olbermann Leaves MSNBC

The fact that Keith Olbermann left MSNBC wasn’t really a surprise to me I had expected it but not as soon as it happened;  In the announcement it said that Keith Olbermann and MSNBC had ended their contract. At the end of last year Keith Olbermann was suspended for a couple of shows for making some campaign contributions and more recently it looked like he had been told to tone down the show with the pending purchase of NBC/Universal by cable giant Comcast. Most glaring of the changes was first the removal of his World’s Worst segment then it returning with a tag line above saying “Not Really.” Keith could retire but I wouldn’t be surprised if he ended up on Sirrus Satellite Radio or HBO only time will tell.

Jetblue Airways the low cost carrier has announced it has added new channels to its seat back video system; The channels are MSNBC, GolTV, SPEED and, on weekends Sentanta Sports on its TV Land channel. The channels are free for all passengers on its flights and, for someone who has flown recently on two other airlines on a plane with a video system and one without the video makes the flight go much quicker.

Is Twitter The New News Network?

Saturday when there were reports coming out of Iran of unrest over the recent elections results which of the cable news networks was covering it? The answer was easy none of them were they were showing Larry King on CNN or MSNBC's Locked Up documentaries for example. The only place covering the protests in Iran was Twitter as Iranian citizens tweeted what was going on as it happens to the world. This has happened before as the cable news networks switch from news on the weekends to prerecorded programs to fill the airtime, which is fine but as news happens they should break in. Earlier this year CNBC and FOX Business did fine work with special news programs as well as breaking in for news of the financial troubles on the weekend. I wonder why the cable news networks didnt cover this event was it because of lack of reporters on the ground or was it simply for budget reasons either way Twitter lead with this story.
