Ratings Down But Show Better

Fans & Ryan At New Jersey AuditionsThe ratings for this seasons premiere episode of "American Idol" were said to down 13 percent from last year which is a shame considering the show is better. The fact that the shows ratings were down with Simon Cowell gone isn't really a surprise but i would have thought more people would have been curious about the debut of Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez as judges. The new judging team is good although i wish Steven Tyler would be tougher the problem with performers as judges is they feel for the contestants too much and don't want to be too tough. Jennifer is showing a softer edge than people may be used to but she has to be careful as she is starting to look more and more like Paula Abdul as she is very emotional; The fact Jennifer Lopez has emotional outbursts is okay but without Simon's hard edge to balance things out the show could get too sugary.

“American Idol” Finally Premieres

Ryan Seacrest talks to the contestantsLast night after months of tabloid stories about the show as well as months of advertising the new season of “American Idol” premiered on FOX with Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez joining Randy Jackson behind the judges table. I was kind of expecting a mess and I was nicely surprised with last night’s show as both of the new judges did very well. Steven Tyler is wacky as expected but his comments are straight forward, Jennifer Lopez was expected to be like Paula with emotional outbursts she was sensitive but also held her own.  Both of the new judges were very comfortable in front of the camera which isn’t surprising as both of them are performers but it brought a relaxed tone which the show didn’t see last year. Yes I do miss Simon but it looks like Steven will somewhat fill the role of the one that is plain talking. The third judge Randy Jackson has sensibly not tried to compete in star power and moved in to a supportive role of the other judges on the desk. I’m sure last night’s premiere had big ratings as people tuned in to see the new judges the question is will the same audience stayed tuned to the show over the next several weeks. It will be later in the season before we see what the effect the new judges have had on the show which has seen declining ratings over the last few years but has still been televisions number one rated show.

American Idol Teaming Up With MySpace

Photo Courtesy Of FOXNow that the ninth season of American Idol has come to an end with a new champion crowned and Simon's leaving as full time judge we get ready for season ten; For this next season American Idol is partnering with My Space who will make a dedicated webpage where aspiring singers will be able to post their video's. To me its amazing that every year they are still able to find top unknown talent for the show and My Space's 100 million audience will help. American Idol has been the top rated show on television for the last seven years and it will be interesting to see how the show does post Simon.

"American Idol" Without Paula?

With only a few weeks left before the audition season starts for American Idol it looks like one judge Paula Abdul may not be returning to the show. At this point the former popstar and Los Angeles Lakergirl doesn't have a contract with the show and there are reports that she hasn't been offered one. There are several fans starting to get save Paula petitions going although after they brought on another female judge last year it seems the writing was on the wall. The show is still a powerhouse in the ratings although every year it drops a little and every contract renewal the judges of course want more money for being on the hit show. Bringing another female judge on last year was nice move for Simon to either replace Paula with a judge for less money or put pressure on Paula to get less money if she stays. I'm sure Simon is watching the news to see how much backlash there is not resigning Paula, the next few weeks should be interesting.

Ryan Says Both Ladies To Return

There has beeen speculation for months that Kara DioGuardi was brought on to American Idol to replace original host and 80's star Paula Abdul as judge. This season the show went with four judges instead of three and, in my opinion worked fine. Paula's goofy behavior and, also her reality show has had people questioning her as judge for a while. There were also reports that the new judge Kara DioGuardi wouldn't return as her and, Simon have clashed on the show. Earlier this month i read many reports that said Paula wasn't sure if she would return for another season although her publicist has denied these rumors. Ryan has now said that he expects both female judges to return to the show and i hope he is right im a fan of Paula's and i like Kara's toughness. I think both will return unless Simon thinks otherwise i guess we will find out early next year.
